WASHINGTON, Jan. 10—The Optical Society (OSA) today released the following the statement from CEO Elizabeth Rogan regarding the shooting that occurred in Tucson, Ariz. on Jan. 8:

“All of us at OSA were stunned and saddened to hear of the tragic shooting that occurred in Tucson over the weekend. Rep. Giffords,OSA’s 2010 Advocate of Optics, is a dedicated public servant who has worked tirelessly to promote science and technology issues in the U.S. Congress, with a particular emphasis on solar technology. She is a friend to the optics community, as evidenced by her leadership on the House Science & Technology Committee and her recent work on the Solar Technology Roadmap Act. We wish Rep.
