Small businesses receive more than $2 billion in federal grants and contracts each year through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

The Technological Research and Development Authority (TRDA) will co-host a proposal preparation training workshop with the Disney Entrepreneur Center. This workshop helps businesses develop higher quality proposals that can lead to higher company win rates.

Sharon Ballard, Trainer/Facilitator

Sharon Ballard is the former President/CEO and one of three founders of Reticular Systems, Inc., a California corporation. Under her leadership, Reticular Systems won more than 30 SBIR awards (Phase I, Phase II and Phase III commercialization efforts). The company spun out new start-up corporations that were quickly purchased by venture-backed companies and the core products have been sold globally to thousands of customers.

Ballard was also Director of Business Development for Titan Corporation and responsible for marketing and sales of advanced satellite communications systems such as Mini-DAMA, a $350 million award for UHF satellite communications systems. She served as Business Development Manager with Motorola, responsible for technology and systems sales for the satellite communications business unit.

She is now Founder, CEO and President of Enable Ventures, Inc. and has been a consultant with Arizona State University and the Arizona Department of Commerce since 2002. She is a frequent judge for collegiate annual student business plan competitions, coaches presenters for investment conferences and has assisted scores of clients on SBIR proposals.
