By year-end, 1.2 billion people will carry handsets capable of rich, mobile commerce providing a rich environment for the convergence of mobility and the Web. By 2013, mobile apps will generate $29.5 billion in annual revenue with mobile shopping, social networking, utilities and productivity tools leading the way. There are already thousands of applications for platforms such as Apple's iPhone and Google's Android.

In a global survey of executives in the communications, IT and media industries, 92% responded that mobile web and application strategies are a top priority, saying they either have developed or are investigating a mobile web and/ or application strategy.
