Abstract:
The near-infrared intense ultrashort laser pulse can be used to probe and control the rich electronic and nuclear dynamics of molecules through the multiphoton process. It is interesting not only for the fundamental molecular physics, but also for the coherent control of the chemical reactions. Experimentally, the electrons and ions ejected from a molecule are measured in coincidence with the cold target recoil ion momentum spectroscopy (COLTRIMS). By using the technique of the coincidence angular streaking, we show that the dynamics of electron localization, especially the instantaneous field-direction and internuclear-distance dependences, can be directly probed and controlled from the diatomic to polyatomic hydrocarbon molecules, which is very recently extended to two-dimension. We show that the vibrational motion of the nuclei can be semi-classically traced and controlled by using two time-delayed ultrashort laser pulses of detuned wavelengths. By controlling the rotational nuclear wavepacket, we impulsively align molecules which can be used to manipulate the spatiotemporal and frequency properties of a properly matched ultrashort laser pulse, e.g., the supercontinuum generation, THz radiation, attraction and repulse of intense filaments, photonic plasma grating, and so on. Our experiments also reveal the electron-nuclear energy sharing in above-threshold multiphoton ionization of molecules.
