Valencia Graphics Portfolio Reviewer Invite

it is quickly approaching that time when students who have made it this far in their portfolio review course have their final "right of passage": their portfolio review evaluation by industry professionals. i know that most of you just enjoy volunteering, however i should mention
we've got quite a few 'rock stars' in our midst this semester, so if you're in need of a rock star, you'll want to be reviewing portfolios so you can snatch them up before someone else does!

although, the students have made it this far, they have not yet passed the course and cannot yet get their degree unless the evaluators give them a passing grade for their portfolio, resume, self-promo and interview (50% of their final grade!). you can expect me to schedule you to meet with approximately 5 students -- each for about 30 minutes per student. evaluation forms and a schedule will be provided upon your arrival, however i've attached a PDF of the evaluation form so you can see what is involved.

we'll need as many volunteer reviewers, preferably with a graphics background, as possible to ensure each of our students gets evaluated by a minimum of two reviewers. if this is something that you or any other qualified coworker/colleague would like to do, please:

1. respond to this post letting us know your interest by Wednesday, December 1st.

2. please let us know if you prefer to interview students with print or web/interactive portfolios (or possibly both).

3. finally, if you could please provide me with your current job title, mailing address, web address and contact information so that students have an opportunity to send thank you cards as well as research your company prior to the interview.

this semester's portfolio review is scheduled for MONDAY, DECEMBER 6TH at 5:45pm - 9:15pm on valencia's east campus in 5-112 (a room hidden behind the cafeteria). sandwiches, snacks and drinks provided. please, let me know if you have any diet restrictions.

for those of you who are new to finding valencia, here is a campus map
and driving directions: http://valenciacc.edu/AboutUs/locations/east_campus.cfm

i look forward to hearing from you by december 1st!

Orlando, FL - (November 15, 2010) - LightPath Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LPTH), a global manufacturer, distributor and integrator of patented optical components and assemblies, has significantly increased its strategic laser tool market and optimized sales to Asia, through the addition of two new lenses to its aspheric laser tool lens catalog. Additionally, the Company has increased its core competencies with new value-added services, including lens shaping, edging, and blackened rims.

LightPath's value-added services for lenses provide assembly options, as well as new form factor options, which help its customers reduce costs for mounting and alignment of optical systems. The second new lens, 354306, directly targets competitive lenses in existing designs.

“These new lenses and value-added services strengthen our capabilities to better address specific customer requirements and enhance our existing relationships. We are targeting Asian manufacturers that use high-volume optics in laser markets. With our new and improved products and services, LightPath has the potential to expand our available market for laser tools by as much as three times,” said Jim Gaynor, CEO and President of LightPath.

Jim Gaynor, President and Chief Executive Officer of LightPath, commented, "During the first quarter, our revenues rose 45% over the same quarter in the prior year. Our cost of goods sold also increased by $539,000 due to volume and product mix change. Unit shipment volume in precision molded optics continued to show improvement in the first quarter of fiscal 2011 compared to the same period last year. Gross margin decreased to 37% as a result of the product mix change and an under absorption of the fixed overhead costs. EBITDA was a loss of $261,000, however, this represents a $121,000 improvement over the loss of $382,000in the first quarter of fiscal 2010.”

Gaynor continued, “The first quarter of our fiscal year is typically the lowest revenue quarter for LightPath due to the summer vacation period in Europe and seasonal slow period for several of our major customers. We are also in the process of transitioning our business to focus on providing low cost, high volume lenses for products, such as laser levels, range finders, gun sights and projectors. We are addressing multiple markets such as industrial tools, biomedical instruments, communications and imaging with a focus in Asia.”

SID Student Chapter Seminar: “e-Paper Technology and Future Development“, Dr. Janglin Chen

CREOL102

Wednesday, November 10, 2010 / 11-12pm

Dr. Janglin (John) Chen

Vice President & General Director

Display Technology Center

Industrial Technology Research Institute

Abstract:

Electronic paper (e-Paper) has drawn much attention for its promise to curb the overuse of paper, such as printed matters, and office documents, etc. The one important feature of e-Paper displays is that they do not require backlight to operate, providing a power saving, paper-like reading experience. Also, their bi-stability enables zero power consumption for still image display.

To meet the future needs for digital life style and for ‘greener’

display panels, ITRI has focused research on flexible display technologies. For digital life, flexible EPD, OLED will address the portability, while flexible touch is to enhance user-friendly interface.

For ‘green panel,’ large-area, roll-to-roll processable Ch-LCD will deliver power saving, material and cost advantages.

Biography:

Dr. Janglin (John) Chen is a Vice President of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan, and the General Director of ITRI’s Display Technology Center. Prior to Joining ITRI, Dr. Chen was a Research Fellow of Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York, where he held many R&D managerial positions from 1982 to 2006, and is the author of sixty technical articles, and 33 issued US Patents. A native of Taiwan, Dr. Chen holds a Bachelor degree from Tsing Hua University, a Ph.D. degree from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York, and is a graduate of Stanford Executive Program, Graduate School

PR: LIGHTPATH TECHNOLOGIES ADDS TWO NEW LENSES TO ITS LONG WAVE INFRARED CATALOG

LIGHTPATH TECHNOLOGIES ADDS TWO NEW LENSES TO ITS LONG WAVE INFRARED CATALOG

--Targets Large Addressable Markets including Homeland Security--

Orlando, FL - (November 8, 2010) - LightPath Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LPTH), a global manufacturer, distributor and integrator of patented optical components and assemblies, announced today it has added two new molded infrared aspheres to its catalog of Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) lenses. These lenses are designed as the primary optics for thermal imagers or collimating lenses for Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) used in a wide variety of applications including homeland security, firefighting, predictive maintenance and driver’s vision enhancement systems in automobiles. These infrared markets have a combined current estimated value of over $2.5 billion.

The first lens, 390021, is an extended focal length lens designed to collimate light from a QCL (a type of laser) that is enclosed in a temperature controlled housing or cryostat. The primary applications are for infrared countermeasures (IRCM) and gas sensing equipment. The second lens, 390023, is a low cost thermal imaging lens designed specifically for the low-cost thermal imaging security camera market. These new lenses are manufactured from LightPath’s Black Diamond ™ chalcogenide glass and are a less expensive substitute for high-volume, diamond-turned Germanium and Zinc Selenide optics.

“LightPath Technologies is continuing to diversify its product line for Infrared Optics with the introduction of these lenses. These new products will address the rapidly expanding QCL, thermal imaging and night vision enhancement markets,” said Jim Gaynor, CEO and President of LightPath.
